Interested in making ADR a reality?
Here’s what YOU can volunteer for!
Social Media Support
Do you use social media to share and explore your interests? Do those interests include reading and writing? Or do you have a social media account with an intimate group following such as supportive family members and friends?
Then help us get the word out about ADR! If you understand and sympathize with our mission, you are qualified to share our site. We need more like-minded people to be aware of our mission and join us.
What you can do:
- Share screenshots of the website as well as your thoughts about ADR online.
- Talk about ADR’s goal and concept with your friends. Try to strike a chord with others and introduce us as a long-term project!
- Provide a link to ADR when asked. Posting links unsolicited online (unless under your own feed/profile) can make our site seem disingenuous. Be aware of where and when you plug links!
- Follow our Instagram account @theAudertist to show your support! We post weekly writing prompts and writer questions for introspection.
Website Moderation
To make sure that all potential users feel safe and can fairly express themselves, we want to enlist the help of moderators to manage user-submitted content.
Several different roles fall under this volunteer category. We will need some moderators who are familiar with our community guidelines and know how to effectively enforce them. Some moderators will need to be more sensitive to our site design and user experience.
In addition to overseeing user content, website mods will be trying out site features and pitching plans/systems to moderate content in a way that keeps everyone happy. Website mods should also be in touch with the community and bring up their concerns and wishes for the site. If you have an eye for detail and can appreciate observing online human behavior, this could be a role for you!
What you can do:
- Participate in our Discord server! A happy and healthy user-run website starts with a happy and healthy community.
- Flag or report inappropriate comments or content on the site.
- Get familiar with the site and answer questions in our community about it.
Event Ambassadors
As a writing site, of course we’ll be hosting writing competitions and events! These events will be for our site users and anyone else who expresses interest in writing stories online.
However, in order to run a successful large-scale event, we will need some help responding to potential participant concerns and questions.
Event ambassadors will likely be a seasonal role who will only be called upon right before and during events. However, compared to other roles, event ambassadors may face more time-sensitive tasks. If you have fair communication skills and have empathy for all levels of writing, this could be a role for you.
What this role consists of:
- Managing events and event announcements
- Keeping track of submission feeds
- Empathic, communicative ordeals
- Answering questions about events
Artists
Currently, we are relying on open-source design tools such as Canva to design our website, but we would like to work with artists—either through commission or volunteer work—to make a collection of cohesive visual elements unique to ADR. In addition, we will be in need of artwork and promotional posters for all future events.
